Zulal Armenian A Cappella Folk Trio

Interesting interpretation of a folk song

Antsnink Sasun, mednenk Van....by Arev Ensemble

When one sees the destruction of our churches, cultural institutions and heritage(while the civilized world is incapable of stopping the destruction of these treasured cultural monuments), then, we can only heed the advice of the author of this song to go back and put a stop to the barbaric destruction of our cultural treasures, rebuild what's being destroyed, and reclaim what was lost.
A very energetic rendition of a wonderful song.

Աննա Մայիլյան, Mesrob Mashdots

A song written by Mesrob Mashdots who invented the Armenian alphabet, performed by Anna Mayilian. I'll let the opening and closing scenes speak by itself about the cultural destruction of the turks of Armenian churches/schools/literature/music etc. Cultural genocide that is continuing to this day. How many thousands of songs were lost? How many are awaiting to be rescued/discovered and performed again?

KAYSERI: THE CHURCH OF SAINT GREGORY THE ILLUMINATOR

KAYSERI:
THE CHURCH OF SAINT GREGORY THE ILLUMINATOR
(Surp Krikor Lusavoriç church)
Another Example of Architectural(Cultural)genocide committed by the turks. Destroying all the christian churches of the Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians on their land. After massacring, killing the creators and supporters of these churches, Now they are killing the cultural treasures.
Is the European Union strong enough to stop the destruction of these churches. Do they have the political will to demand that turkey renovate these churches to their original glorious state and correctly reference them to their rightful owners the Armenians?

Arax - Danse d'erzeroum - Armenian Folk Music

A song/dance to remind us of Erzerum in Western Armenia.

Dle Yaman by Isabel Bayrakdarian

Thanks Isabel for singing this wonderful song with a refreshing arrangement with the duduks. In memory of father Gomidas who collected these songs, but could not withstand the brutal, inhumane events that his people were subjected at the hands of the turks.
Is there anyone out there that could fund the rebuilding of this Architectural treasure of a church called Zvartnots. Should it still remain in ruins?

Shushan-Haleh, from Dikranagerd

A dance from Dikranagerd region of Western Armenia. Thanks Tomzara for keeping the dance alive on this April 24th, when many other dances from this area have disappeared/lost because of the brutal crime committed by the turks. Video posted in memory of all Dikranagerdtzi's who did not survive the genocide.
P.S. Please videotape/rescue any living cultural treasures from the Western Armenian regions so we can share it with the whole wide world. Post them to the net like Tomzara has done, or send them to us and we will post them for you. Thanks for keeping the spirit of our Martyrs alive.

Kessab Dance II, Western Armenia

Turkey's Shame?

Out of 2500+ Armenian churches they try to rebuild one as a publicity stunt. But, they do not reopen it as a church but as museum. They talk about being a secular muslim society but can not allow church services being held in the reconstructed church. They want the European Union to accept them as they are but they can not accept christianity as a valid religion and prosecute every minority within their society??
When will they join civilazation.
What about the other churches that are decaying and getting destroyed?
Hayastani Petakan Nvagakhumb - The Dance Of The Mountaineers

Had to post this video for the amount of energy it contains, and the indication of where Aram Khachatourian's music is derived from and why he so treasured visiting his homeland.
Armenian Dance - Dance Teachers from California

The rebirth of cultural heritage.
An Armenian traditional dance being preformed by various teachers from the Armenian Dance Association of California at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles during the Annual Armenian Dance Festival 2004
THE NEW TEARS OF ARAXES

CULTURAL GENOCIDE DOCUMENTED.
Featuring a never-seen-before satellite image of a vandalized medieval cemetery at the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, "The New Tears of Araxes," a five-minute film, tells the tragic story of thousands of ancient Armenian headstones flattened to the ground by the Azerbaijani authorities in Djulfa (Jugha), Nakhichevan.

On December 15, 2005, eyewitnesses across the River Araxes videotaped Azeri soldiers destroying Armenian burial monuments - khachkars (cross stones) - some as old as 1,500 years. Azerbaijani officials denied the vandalism, but banned European Parliament members from visiting the site in March of 2006. Only a few outside news sources tried to publicize the tragedy.

"The New Tears of Araxes" is written by Sarah Pickman, a University of Chicago student, who was the only American reporter to cover the tragedy when she interned for Archaeology Magazine. Producer and narrator Simon Maghakyan, who is among America's top 20 college students according to USA TODAY (April 24, 2006), hopes the film will break a year of ignorance and silence. When asked why others should care, Maghakyan quotes Martin Luther King Jr. as saying, "Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere."
Jivan Gasparyan - Eshkhemed

Jivan playing with his heart the soulful messages left to us in those stone churches and cross stones that have been destroyed. Can anyone feel the call to help rebuild all those churches and turn them into houses of worship.
Masterpieces of architecture waiting to be resurrected. Heed Jivan's call. Do something to rescue all these churches and cultural treasures from total destruction. The turks have already destroyed what was left behind in Western Armenia and from the thousands that they destroyed they rebuilt one but would not allow a cross on it and would not allow any religeous services to be performed in it.
Yeghish Manoukyan

A traditional rendition of a wonderful song by Ashough(minstrel) Ashot.
Voch mi tzaghik ko pourmounke chouni (No flower has your perfume)

Cilicia - Daniel Decker - Live in Sydney, Australia

One of these days I will translate this song and post it unless someone knows of an existing translation. It is not only the dream to go back and see but to rebuilt what has been violently and brutally destroyed whether churches, schools, whole cities, the literature, the dances, the artifacts, and the way of life and why not even our national cuisine has been butchered and destroyed and hence the yearning that this song ellicits.

Djivan Gasparyan and Russian National Orchestra

Armenian song Siretzi Yaress daran arranged for orchestra, beautiful performance by djivan and the Russian National Orchestra.
HRANT DİNK-Frightened and Free - They killed Free thought

Latest victim of the Armenian genocide. This murder was so shocking that we still haven't recovered from the emotional wreck it inflicted on us. Yet, he is not the only victim this year, all those who are living in Turkey and are forbidden to speak their mind, practice their religion and watch the destruction of their cultural heritages all around them are present victims of the first genocide of the twentieth century.
BBC Special on Armenian Genocide

The genocide committed by Turkey continues to this day in different forms, whether it's the assassination of Hrant Dink or the destruction of cultural artifacts or the blockading of Armenia or the use of the Azerbaijani armed forces to continue the genocide in Sumgait, Shahumian and many districts of Nagorno-gharapagh up to bombarding the peaceful population of Artzakh.
Tamzara

A challenge to all who visit this site to see how many versions of this dance we can collect. This is just one part of this wonderful dance.

Kochari - Armenian dance

One version of the very popular Kochari dance.
Popouri

A dance from village of Khorkhom, Van (Western Armenia).
Thanks to Tomzara for posting all these clips on the net, otherwise most of us would never have a chance to see or know about them.
Govand-Haleh

Young Armenians somewhere in the States trying to learn and preserve some of the folk dances of their ancestors. Anyone has any idea of where this dance comes from or any comments of how it compares to how it was danced before?
Armenian-Musalertsee Dance

Another folk dance from the region of Svedia (Western Armenia). The descendants of 7 villages that were forcefully uprooted and rescued by the french documented in a novel "the fourty days of Moussa Dagh" by Frantz Werfel, gather every year to in commemoration for their martyrs during that heroic battle against the Turkish genocidal state. These dances are part of a group of which some have been lost through the practice of cultural genocide.
P.S. If anyone out there has videos, recordings of the dances and songs from these villages please be kind and share them either through U-Tube or/and forwarding me a copy of them. I will pay you the shipping costs just let me know by email.
I am interested to make this blog a repository of all the cultural relics that are scatted around the world because of the Armenian genocide. Dances from all region of Western Armenian, including their proper names, songs, poetry, pictures so we can document the cultural and spiritual destruction besides the physical extinction that we all talk about.
Armenian Genocide

Genocide denial in Action. After eliminating 99% of its Armenian population, and working to silence and destroy their kurdish population because they just want to be who they are, in broad daylight they killed Hrant Dink a journalist who spoke openly issues the Turkish state does not want to face. Yet, they want to join the European Union without sharing European values. They want to force others into silence, destroy their churches and cultural heritages while contemplating building mosques in Europe and subjecting the Europeans to them.
